Performances August 8 through September 15
Mixed Precipitation’s Picnic Operetta, now in its fifth season, is seeking a first violinist.
We are open to subbing out or splitting the position, if a candidate has some conflicts with the performance schedule. In other words, IF YOU’RE INTERESTED AND CAN ONLY DO SOME OF THE PERFORMANCES, GET IN TOUCH!
This year’s production is a mash-up of Beethoven’s “Fidelio” and the music of reggae legend Jimmy Cliff.
We need a player with these attributes:
Strong technique and good ensemble skills. Experience in chamber groups and theatrical experience is helpful.
Improvisatory skills, familiarity with popular music and ability to make creative adaptations.
Reliability.
Ability to work in a changing environment. (Performances are outdoors, in community gardens throughout the metro area.)
Good leadership and interpersonal skills.
Fun-loving people who like good food, gardens and the outdoors.

Rachel Grise (ASL Interpreter) I graduated from the interpreting program St. Kate’s, where I had the amazing opportunity to interpret at Walt Disney World. Since then, I have worked as an interpreter in a variety of educational, religious and theatrical settings. Theater and health care have always been particular interests of mine. My family and I live in South Minneapolis.

These teams of hard peddling racers were zooming across Powderhorn. They stopped by our station in the Jardin Paraiso to help chop some cabbage with Chef Chris Roberts. We’ll be transforming the cabbage into a delicious kraut to serve in during The Return of King Idomeneo: A Picnic Operetta.

The cast of the Picnic Operetta will be at play in the field, presenting a short and informal set of songs as the sun goes down on another beautiful Minneapolis evening. Join us Thursday June 28th at 8pm for a twilight event celebrating music for the hearth, featuring the cast of Mixed Precipitation’s 2012 community garden opera.

Singalong with songs of graciousness, praising food, drink and the joys of sharing the gastronomic experience. We’ll include music by local composer Abbie Betinis and special guests include the SeVy Gospel Quartet (pronounced say-v) and their family blend of tasty harmonies! Walker education team has paired us with Open Field artists-in-residence, Carl and Betsy DiSalvo for the finale of their Kitchen Lab residency. Access Coordinator Intern
JOB SUMMARY:
The Access Coordinator Intern will provide valuable assistance and support to the Access Coordinator and Community Programs Manager during Mixed Precipitation’s 2012 Picnic Operetta. The Intern will attend all performances and serve as second-in-command for Front of House staff/volunteers. This intern will be actively involved in the organization’s community engagement and outreach.

Artistic Production Intern
JOB SUMMARY:
The ARTISTIC PRODUCTION INTERN will support the key creative and production staff in rehearsals developing an outdoor performance, The Return of King Idomeneo. With leadership from the Artistic Director, Production Manager and Music Director, the Intern will participate actively in the rehearsal process as a rehearsal assistant and attend all performances, performing running crew duties and assignments related to the performance.

Thanks to all who attended Alcina’s Island: a Picnic Operetta! In all, we reached nearly 2500 people at our performances in 2011, many experiencing opera for the first time, many more discovering vital urban green space for the first time. Thanks to the craftsmanship of chef Nick Schneider, nearly all in our audience tasted something new on their palate, as the music of Handel rang through the urban landscape.
We are deeply humbled by the enthusiasm that greeted us at each new community garden. Your laughter, compliments and generous contributions help us set our sites on a delicious future for this project.

As the season has turned we have set our sites on new projects for the fall season.
We’ll present selections of our new work-in-progress Frequencies of Paranormal Genius at Patrick’s Cabaret.
Inspired by Shirley Jackson’s “The Haunting of Hill House”
and the work of spiritual channel Christine Day, the audience will co-author a
terror experience that animates Patrick’s Cabaret for its unique paranormal potential.

What is Mixed Precipitation?
We are performance group dedicated to exploring text, space and form in theatrical events that create opportunities for social engagement. We are excited about work that bends genres and brings together communities to honor the spaces and the times that we share.

In our colorful re-imagining of Handel’s 1735 opera, the garden becomes a truck stop on the American highway. Scheming sorceresses Alcina and Morgana become truck stop waitresses luring brave truckers astray. We combine Handel’s early baroque with trucker songs and classic country. The magic of this Island will be all the more savory, with Chef Nick Schneider’s five course sampling menu of locally sourced treats created especially for this performance. And, of course, the glory of love and music conquers all!
